A flote y con viento
Tell watertightness (estanqueidad), buoyancy (flotabilidad) and stability (estabilidad) apart, say when the boat rights herself (se adriza), point out windward (barlovento) and leeward (sotavento), and recognise close-hauled sailing (ceñida), luffing up (orzada) and leeway (abatimiento).
Terms
- Estanqueidad
- Cualidad del buque de evitar que el agua penetre en él. No confundir con la flotabilidad (capacidad de mantenerse a flote).
- Watertightness (estanqueidad) — Quality of a ship that prevents water from entering it. Not to be confused with buoyancy (flotabilidad), the ability to stay afloat.
- Flotabilidad
- Capacidad de flotar.
- Buoyancy (flotabilidad) — Ability to float.
- Adrizar
- Poner la embarcación en posición vertical, corregir la escora: el barco que vuelve a su equilibrio tras un golpe de mar adriza.
- To right (adrizar) — To bring the boat back to the upright position, correcting the heel: a boat that returns to equilibrium after being struck by a sea rights itself (adriza).
- Ceñida (navegar de bolina)
- Navegación a vela contra el viento; ir o navegar de bolina es navegar de modo que la dirección de la quilla forme con la del viento el ángulo menor posible.
- Close-hauled sailing (ceñida, de bolina) — Sailing against the wind; to sail close-hauled (de bolina) is to sail so that the keel makes the smallest possible angle with the wind direction.
- Barlovento
- Parte por donde viene (entra) el viento.
- Windward (barlovento) — The side from which the wind comes (blows).
- Sotavento
- Lado hacia el que sopla el viento, opuesto a barlovento.
- Leeward (sotavento) — The side towards which the wind goes; the opposite of windward (barlovento).
